The shift toward mass merchants and department stores and away from smaller specialty retailers continued in the second quarter of 2011. Consumers seem to value the convenience that these larger retailers offer over specialty retailers in categories such as electronics and sporting goods, as they are able to address all of their shopping needs at once.
